The Guidecca and it's canal

First we will explore the canal Guidecca. There are several churches, but I cannot name them all. The most recognizable one is Palladio's San Giorgia Maggiore. It sits at the end of the island. Like the Santa Maria della Salute, it was built in gratitude for surviving the plague. For more about Palladio, check out the Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrea_Palladio

Here is a view from the Canal San Marco. You may have noticed the little lighthouse when we first oriented ourselves to the area.
Storms blow up in the afternoon just like in Florida.

I believe this church is on the other side of the Guidecca Canal.

This gondoleer is either very skilled or very brave. The canal is often quite busy with ferries, vaporetta, and even cruise ships.

Venice side of the canal.

Can you find the grocery store? When I took the photo (from the ship) I had no idea that there was a grocery store here. In the middle photo, the yellow building is a grocery. I was able to pick up items for a picnic dinner there.
Next we will explore some of these streets and canals on foot-well, maybe a gondola too.
