Apparently this city on a swamp has been able to access fresh water from below, and has been able to for some time. The salt water is quite shallow-one of the factors in the city's ability to defend itself, but that is another story. As I walked around town, I kept comming upon these wells and fountains. Some of the fountains are still working. Many of the wells were in front of churches.
