Here are the landmarks of Lyon-at least the ones on Forvier Hill. The Basilica was built by the bishop of Lyon after Lyon was spared from Prussian invasion (prior to WWI). His prayers were answered. Nevermind what happened several years later.
Of interest is the tower-like the top of Eifel. It was raised by merchants as something of a protest to the power of the church, so the Basilica had technology to contend with as the high point of the hill.
More about this Basilica later.
You'll see better photos of this later. It is in Bellecour Square. Lemot is the sculpter; Louis XIV is the Sun King.
When I saw this I though it must say, Boneparte slept here. France must be full of these. I imagine he slept pretty much where he wanted, till he didn't.
This one is about the free hospital. Isn't French easy to read?
The post office is behind the hospital tower. On the outise wall of the PO is this memorial.
Bellecour Square was the site of a French game of bowling, somewhat like bocci. This weekends event was taken very seriously.
