Courtyard Bonnet House

This limestone was quarried in the place that the Aventura Mall now sits. There will be no replacements for it. If you click on the photo and look closely, you will see the coral rock. South Florida was underwater longer than Central Florida or North Florida in geological time. Our limestone here in North Central Florida looks and acts something like hard chalk. As kids we used it to draw out hopscotch on the street-however, using it to throw our rock often resulted in more little rocks. Anyway, South Florida limestone still bears the imprint of the coral that makes it.
