The Lido

Continuing past Santa Maria, Atlas and Fortuna, and the Doge's Palace, we head out the Guidecca Canal briefly, then across the Laguna to the Lido. There are canals on the Lido as well.
Our water taxi driver pulls into the dock at the Excelsior Hotel.

Suddenly the south Florida Gulf coast makes more sense to me. Venice, Lido Beach, Naples, the Mediterranean houses, the Ringling home and museum-they are all reflections of this world.
Even a walk on the beach reminds me of the Gulf coast (except for the topless women and naked children).
Eventually we make it to our hotel, the Des Bains.
You can see it here on top of the hill. The beach is just a short walk from the Des Bains. The Des Bains has a lovely breezy front porch. Our room had good views of the city, and a lovely expansive bathroom which we enjoyed very much. The food was outrageously overpriced and not so good, and the distance to other restaurants was a bit long for us to walk. It was a lovely experience, but we would stay in Venice if we were to return to Venice.

Viewed from the jetty's, one can see the Alps in the distance behind the Lido.
